Why Basements Are Different

A Basement Floor Is Not a Garage Floor

A basement slab sits below grade, so the first question is never color. It is moisture. Before we quote, we test the slab with a calcium chloride kit or an in-slab humidity probe, and we tell you the reading. Where the number calls for it, a moisture barrier primer goes down before anything else.

The work itself is different too. Everything is carried in by hand, grinding dust has to be contained indoors, and the room is ventilated while the coating cures. Columns, drains and walls add cut-in work. That is why a basement is priced on its own, not with the garage formula.

The finish options are the ones you know from our garage floors: decorative flake for grip and a speckled look that hides dirt, metallic for a marbled, polished-stone look, and solid color for a clean, simple floor. All three sit on a diamond-ground slab and a 100% solids epoxy base.

Our Process

How We Install an Epoxy Basement Floor

💧

1. Moisture test first

Calcium chloride or in-slab humidity probe, measured and shown to you. If water is actively coming in, that gets fixed before any coating.

💥

2. Diamond grind, dust contained

Industrial grinders open the pores and profile the slab. No acid-etching shortcut, and dust control suited to working indoors.

🔧

3. Repair and prime

Cracks and joints are filled. A moisture barrier primer goes on where the reading calls for it.

🎨

4. Base, flake or metallic, topcoat

100% solids epoxy base, then your flake, metallic or solid color, sealed with a clear topcoat. The room is ventilated while it cures.

Common Questions

Epoxy Basement Floor FAQ

Can epoxy go on a basement floor?
Yes, if the slab is dry enough and sound. A basement slab sits below grade, so we measure moisture before we quote, using a calcium chloride test or an in-slab humidity probe, and we use a moisture barrier primer where the reading calls for it. If water is actively coming in through the floor or walls, that has to be fixed before any coating goes down.
How do you prep a basement slab?
We diamond-grind the concrete to open the pores and profile the surface, with dust control suited to working indoors, then repair cracks and joints. Acid-etching and pressure-washing shortcuts can fail early. Grinding is what gives the coating a permanent bond.
What finishes can I get in a basement?
The same three systems as our garage floors: decorative flake, metallic and solid color, all over a 100% solids epoxy base with a clear topcoat. Use the calculator to compare the finishes and watch the price change.
How much does an epoxy basement floor cost?
It depends on the size of the floor, the finish and what the moisture test shows. A basement costs more per square foot than a garage because everything is carried in, dust has to be controlled indoors and the slab needs a moisture test and barrier primer. Price yours in about 60 seconds on our basement estimate, then we confirm it on site and put the final number in writing.
How long does a basement install take, and can we stay in the house?
Basements usually take a little longer than a garage because of carry-in, indoor dust control and the moisture test. We give you the schedule in writing after the site visit. We ventilate the space while the coating cures and ask you to keep people and pets out of the basement until the floor is walkable.
Are you licensed and insured?
Yes. USA Pro Floors holds MHIC license #111360 and carries liability and workers compensation insurance. We serve Maryland homeowners across Anne Arundel County and the surrounding area.
